After a grueling 14-hour drive to Tennessee to take my daughter, her three children, and two dogs home after their summer visit to Central New York, I was ready to catch my flight home. Ordinarily, a two-and-a-half-hour layover at New York's LaGuardia Airport would have felt like one more inconvenience at the end of a long journey. Instead, it became an unexpected gift.
As I exited the gate area, a sign for the Interfaith Chapel caught my attention. Who would have imagined finding an oasis of peace in the middle of one of the nation's busiest airports? Tucked away in Terminal C on the Departures Level near Gate 61, the chapel welcomed travelers into a quiet space for silence, prayer, and reflection. It was exactly what I needed—a chance to pause, breathe, and become present before continuing my journey.

After leaving the chapel, I wandered toward a smoothie stand and noticed an inviting outdoor terrace overlooking the runway and the waters of Flushing Bay. Smoothie in hand, I found a front-row seat to watch the steady rhythm of planes taking off and landing. The warm sunshine, gentle breeze, and the familiar sounds of aircraft created an atmosphere that was both energizing and peaceful. Even the pineapple smoothie seemed to taste better in that moment.

Sometimes the most meaningful pauses are the ones we never plan. What I expected to be a tedious layover became a reminder that moments of grace can be found in the most unexpected places—even in the heart of a bustling airport. ❤️
